Oregon

I have visited Oregon many times over the years, creating 27 paintings to date. The Great Basin of Oregon is among the most remote regions in the continental United States. My work in this area focuses on the remnants of its geological, ecological, and cultural past.

The ecological relationship with this arid landscape reflects adaptation and survival. Only what is essential endures, serving as the inspiration for my work.

As an artist-in-residence at the Jennings Hotel, I spent a week exploring Hells Canyon—a geological cross-section of time. Layered basalt flows and uplifted sediments reveal the immense forces that shaped this landscape, carved over millennia by the relentless power of the Snake River.

The history of the Nez Perce people is etched into the canyon’s terrain, This rich cultural heritage coexists with the thriving presence of bighorn sheep, golden eagles, and native flora.
